ROGER O'DONNELL / MADAM
A rare London appearance for Roger O'Donnell who has created a new composition exclusively for Ship of Fools Club entitled 'Winter, Autumn, Spring'. He has recently played with members of the Corktown Chamber Orchestra in the Trinity Church in Toronto. Needless to say that we are absolutely thrilled to have him on board.
O'Donnell's history will always precede him—how many others can say they played keyboards for the Psychedelic Furs and The Thompson Twins, and was a long-standing member of The Cure?—but such background is almost incidental in the case of the solo releases. They signify not just a new chapter in his career but an altogether separate volume, and anyone expecting songs remotely resembling The Cure's should look elsewhere. At this stage, O'Donnell has nothing to prove and could easily rest on his laurels, which makes the pleasures afforded by his wonderful solo material all the more satisfying. - Texture Magazine -
Madam is the project of singer/songwriter/producer Sukie Smith, Her abum 'In Case of Emergency', out on Reveal Records in 2008, featured cameo appearances from fifteen other musicians including former Rockingbird Sean Reed and received outstanding reviews from the national press.
Last year she took the stage of the Queen Elizabeth Hall with Black Box Recorder and supported Hugo Race (ex Bad Seeds) in his London appearance.
Madam will play a full line up set including recent addition John Mercedo from Queen of Swords, whose soundscapes have become integral part of the cutting edge and nocturnal sound of the band.
'Sukie Smith, better known as Madam, has a rare ability to combine the smoky, nocturnal atmospherics conjured by PJ Harvey or Portishead or the Velvet Underground with a pop sensibility' - The Independent, One to Watch

The symbolism of water has a universal undertone of purity and fertility. Symbolically, it is often viewed as the source of life itself as we see evidence in countless creation myths in which life emerges from primordial waters. 11 artists photographers and four music acts celebrate the relationship between the element and the surroundings, showing with their images and sound their personal vision of water, simply on a boat, on the Thames.
Participating artists photographers: Robert Allwood, George Bush, Sophia Dawson, Kelvin Hayes, Ben McDonnell, Angela Last, George Koutsoudopoulous, Poison Creeper & Andrea, Karoliina Hujanen, Grahame Rockhill, Dominic Simpson
